Education and Training
Dr. Sharma received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and his medical degree from Touro University in Vallejo, California.
Dr. Sharma completed his training in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology in sunny South Florida at NOVA Southeastern University, where he was selected as chief fellow of his gastroenterology program. He was regularly invited to showcase clinical cases at national conferences throughout the course of his training in Florida. Additionally, Dr. Sharma had a special focus in mastering safe and effective endoscopic interventions for a variety of digestive tract ailments, which he honed by training at GI-specific advanced surgical centers, that focused on high quality patient care and complete patient satisfaction. He regularly presented research at national gastroenterology conferences of many unique clinical presentations and also spoke on the endoscopic management of common and rare gastrointestinal disorders.
History
Dr. Sharma co-founded Digestive and Liver Health Specialists after a fulfilling tenure as a clinical gastroenterologist at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN, where he started and built a thriving outpatient GI practice for the community. While at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital, Dr. Sharma was well esteemed by his peers and his patients appreciated that he was knowledgeable, kind, patient, attentive, and allowed them to be actively involved in the decision-making process and management of their gastrointestinal disorders.
Expertise
Dr. Sharma’s clinical expertise includes all facets of gastroenterology with an emphasis on the management of reflux disease, nutrition in the management of chronic gastrointestinal disorders, gut microbiome/gut health, liver disease management, and colorectal cancer screening and prevention. He treats irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), heartburn, bloating, digestive irregularity, cirrhosis, esophagitis, and a variety of other discomforting gastrointestinal tract diseases. He offers a full range of endoscopic procedures to prevent, diagnose, and treat gastrointestinal disorders in adults, and he places a unique emphasis on continually educating himself on the latest and most advanced procedures and treatments in the field of gastroenterology.

Goals
Dr. Sharma strives to build lasting relationships with his patients and their families. He wants his patients to live life to the fullest and achieve their maximum potential. He places a genuine emphasis on high quality and compassionate, patient-centered care. He will also coach his patients on preventative measures, including how to adjust one’s diet for better gastrointestinal health. He believes that health is the result of a multifactorial process including an active lifestyle, digestive health, and proper dietary habits.
Interests
Outside of the office, Dr. Sharma enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, traveling with his wife and dog Koa, and playing a variety of sports. He grew up snow skiing, and still enjoys occasionally escaping to the mountains to ski. He also enjoys playing basketball and golf, and rooting for his favorite collegiate/pro sports teams.
